FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (April 18, 2012) – The Fort Lauderdale Strikers and Coral Springs United today announced an affiliation agreement designed to bolster CSU’s program by providing a variety of opportunities for CSU players and coaches to interact with Strikers’ players, coaches and technical staff.
“We are pleased to have Coral Springs United join our Club Affiliation and Partnership Program [C.A.P.P.], which we launched in March,” said Strikers team president Tim Robbie. “An affiliation between the Strikers and Coral Springs United is a natural alliance that will provide tremendous benefits to CSU, the Strikers, and the sport of soccer as a whole in the South Florida community.”
The relationship with the youth club in Coral Springs dates back to the days of the original Strikers and Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
“In the 70’s and 80’s, there was a designated section in Lockhart Stadium for season ticket holders from the Coral Springs area,” said Robbie. “The Strikers and Coral Springs have a long partnership history dating back to the 1970’s when developer John Taravella and former Coral Springs Mayor Ben Geiger asked the original Strikers to assist in the development of a youth soccer program in Coral Springs.”
Highlights of the affiliation include Strikers’ players and coaches assisting with CSU training sessions, player evaluations and coaching instruction. There will be opportunities for CSU teams to play games at Lockhart Stadium, attend “chalk talks” with Strikers’ coaches prior to games and participate in other on-field activities at Strikers’ home games.
Every CSU player who registers for the 2012-13 season will receive Strikers’ tickets that are redeemable at any 2012 regular season game.
“Our priority is to provide Coral Springs United players all of the resources necessary to excel at their game and grow as players,” said CSU President Mike Driscoll. “We are very excited about our affiliation with the Strikers as this relationship will contribute a differentiating and exclusive value to our players.”
CSU also intends to join forces with West Pines United and other potential affiliates to offer enhanced training and playing opportunities for elite players from both their girls and boys programs.
“Our vision is to make Coral Springs United one of the most recognizable clubs in the state of Florida,” said CFU Vice President David Horacek. “This strategic alliance is indicative of our plans to expand our offerings to the soccer community and build meaningful and productive soccer relationships, in order to cultivate youth soccer and player development.”
The Strikers’ two-tiered Club Affiliation and Partnership Program {C.A.P.P.] provides opportunities for recreational and travel clubs to form alliances with the Strikers. The City of Fort Lauderdale’s recreational soccer program, West Pines United and Coral Springs United have each formed partnerships with the Strikers through this program.
